I Attended Vercel Meetup #2

As they say, strike while the iron is hot, so I'll jot this down.

Yesterday, I attended Vercel Meetup #2.

This meetup was about v0, the generative AI developed by Vercel.

To be honest, I didn't have high expectations for v0, and my primary reason for attending was for networking purposes, particularly because Guillermo, the CEO of Vercel, was coming. (Additionally, I thought I might run into a few acquaintances whom I hadn't seen in a while.)

I had been testing throwing design images at v0 to do some coding, and while the accuracy seemed decent, I thought that the actual task itself wasn't that difficult, so I had assessed that I probably wouldn't use it seriously.

However, after yesterday's meetup, my understanding has changed, so I want to note it down.

The True Value of v0 Lies in JavaScript Interactions and Animations

As the heading suggests, it seems far more interesting to use it for creating complex animations rather than just generating static pages based on Next.js.

While I might have ideas for elaborate animations for the main visuals of landing pages, actually designing and implementing the movements is difficult.

I felt that v0's significant value is its ability to generate high-quality outputs based solely on text instructions.

Moreover, it seems that if something good doesn't come out with the first set of instructions, giving up at that point isn't advisable. Instead, it's about the challenge that follows, where adding more detailed instructions improves the quality, which was emphasized.

The same applies to image generation: the more creative the area, the stronger the AI (or rather, where humans tend to struggle), which was a point of renewed recognition for me.

Bonus

I had a chance to talk to Guillermo for a bit, which was nice. He recognized microCMS as well…!

By the way, I was curious why 'Guillermo' is spelled that way as 'ギシェルモ.' It turns out it's how it's pronounced in Spanish. He mentioned it's like an accent in the Osaka dialect. (He knows quite a bit about Japan, haha)

A katakana noun!

The biggest takeaway for me was rekindling my slightly fading enthusiasm for AI. Hearing directly about products fighting on the front lines really boosted my motivation.

Additionally, my motivation for English has also somewhat revived. I must get to work on it.
